Forester To Speak At Oct. 24 Meeting

Karen Stanley, Rockbridge area forester, will speak on her experiences out west in several National Parks at the next meeting of the Rockbridge Area Forestry and Wildlife Association Oct. 24.

She will also discuss the difference in western ecosystems from those in the East and the scarcity of water due to climate, agriculture and population.

Stanley has been the area forester with the Virginia Department of Forestry since 2001 and is a wildland firefighter and certified arborist. She graduated from Virginia Tech College of Forestry and Natural Resources in 2000.

The meeting will be held at the South River Volunteer Fire Department, with the social hour starting at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7.

Reservations for the dinner must be made by Oct. 19 by calling 261-3803 or (540) 290-0082. The price of each dinner will be $12. Reservations are required so adequate food can be prepared.
