Forest Service Campgrounds Open

USDA Forest Service campgrounds, ATV trails, and day use areas are open to visitors or will be opening soon for the summer recreation season.

The Glenwood-Pedlar Ranger District provides access to recreation sites in Amherst, Augusta, Bedford, Botetourt, Nelson, and Rockbridge counties.

In Rockbridge County, the Cave Mountain Lake campground opened April 1 to campers with reservations only. There is no first come/first served camping at this time.

The Cave Mountain Lake day use area is open to campers with reservations with limited facilities. Youth (15 and under) will be allowed to fish with accompanying adults, with a day use fee of $8. The main bathhouse will not be available, but a restroom facility will be provided near the picnic shelter.

The Hopper Creek campground in Arnolds Valley is also open to campers with reservations only, with no first come/first served camping at this time.

The Locher Tract in Arnolds Valley is open year-round, with restrooms opening May 15.

The nearby Crabtree Falls day use area is also open year-round, with restrooms having opened April 1. Restrooms will open May 15 at Crabtree Falls Meadow.

Many recreation sites in the district, including hiking and biking trails, are open year-round. For current status updates or to make a reservation visit Recreation.gov.
