Firefighter Injured In House Fire In Buena Vista

               A firefighter sustained second-degree burns after the roof collapsed during a house fire in Buena Vista Wednesday afternoon. The house is considered a total loss.

               The Buena Vista Fire Department responded to reports of a house fire in the 1400 block of Oak Avenue around 1 p.m., according to Buena Vista Police Chief Keith Hartman.

               The owner of the residence was home at the time of the fire and made it out without any injuries. Hartman said the cause of the fire is unknown at this time. The house is considered a total loss.

               The incident is still under investigation by the Buena Vista Fire Department.

               The injured firefighter was admitted to Carilion Stonewall Jackson Hospital for treatment of his injuries. He has since been released.

               Hartman told the News-Gazette the residents of the home are receiving lodging assistance from the American Red Cross.
