Elizabeth Runyan Haskins died July 9

Elizabeth Runyan Haskins died Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at her home.

She was born on March 18, 1924, in Montclair, N.J., to Dr. and Mrs. William J. Runyan of Bloomfield and Glen Ridge, N.J.

She graduated from Glen Ridge High School, attended Hood College in Fredrick, Md., and graduated from Tobe-Coburn School for Fashions Careers in New York City.

She married Guy H. Haskins Jr after his graduation from Virginia Military Institute in 1943.  After his return from India after WWII, they settled in Caldwell, N.J., and later in Essex Fells, N.J., and were active in the Presbyterian Church in Caldwell.

Mrs. Haskins was president of the Presbyterian Women and served as president of the West Essex Women’s Club in town.

In 1993 the Haskins retired to Lexington, where they served as elders in the Lexington Presbyterian Church.  Betty was active in the Helping Hands and Shawl Ministry and enjoyed sewing and knitting for those in need.

Recently she was honored with an Honorary Life Membership for Presbyterian Women USA.

She was a member of the Lexington Woman’s Club and her much loved Natural Bridge Garden Club of which she served as president.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Haskins Jr.

She leaves three daughters, Karen Haskins Harrison of Cherry Hill, N.J., Linda Haskins Miller of Hummelstown, Pa., and W. Noel Haskins-Hafer of La Mesa, Calif., four grandsons, Chadwick Miller, David Miller, Brent Harrison and Kyle Harrison; a great-grandson, Odin Harrison; a great-granddaughter, Isis Harrison; sister Beverly Jane Cole of Clayton, N.Y.; niece Rachel Cole and nephew William Cole.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, at Stonewall Jackson Cemetery with Dr. William Klein, the Rev. Sarah L. Hill, and Dr. Abraham Luckoff officiating.  Friends may gather with the family from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, at Harrison Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, at Lexington Presbyterian Church.
