Elizabeth McCurdy Bowyer, 89, of Lexington died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2020, at Kendal.

Born Oct. 13, 1931, in Rockbridge Baths, she was a daughter of the late Fred Alexander McCurdy and Una Swisher McCurdy.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Emory Wilson Bowyer Jr.; son, Byron M. Bowyer; and sister Betty Gorden.

Elizabeth was an active member of Manly Memorial Baptist Church and a long-time member of the Sam Houston Ruritan Club. Throughout her life, she was committed to many volunteer activities, including the Girl Scouts and Samaritans Purse. Friends and family will miss her warmth and generosity.

Surviving are her children, Carolyn B. Warren (Joel), and Tina Bowyer; one sister, Lorene M. Steele; two grandchildren, Travis L. Moore and Marcus A. Moore; three great grandchildren, Emery Moore, Landon Moore and Abigail R. Moore.

A private graveside service was held at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens with Dr. Michael Wilkins officiating. A memorial service will be at a later date at Manly Memorial Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Manly Memorial Baptist Church, 202 S. Main St., Lexington, VA 24450 or Rockbridge Area Hospice, 315 Myers St., Lexington, VA 24450.
