Crime Report

Sarah Hope Ruley, 26, of Lexington, was charged Jan. 10 by the Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office with multiple felony offenses in relation to an incident in November.

Ruley was charged with breaking and entering of a dwelling during the day, conspiracy to commit breaking and entering, grand larceny, conspiracy to commit grand larceny, bribery, conspiracy to commit credit card larceny, credit card larceny, credit card fraud by merchant, and selling of stolen property. Ruley was also charged with the following misdemeanor offenses: three counts of obtaining money by false pretense, petit larceny, ID theft, three counts of fraudulent use of credit card, three counts of credit card fraud to receive goods.

Michael Paul Shafer, 39, of Lexington, was also charged by the Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office for felony offenses occurring in the same timeframe in November.

Shafer was charged Jan. 10 with conspiracy to commit grand larceny, conspiracy to commit credit card larceny, larceny bank notes, selling of stolen property, two counts of credit card larceny, conspiracy to commit break and entering, breaking and entering with intent to commit larceny, grand larceny, and conspiracy to commit credit card fraud. Shafer was also charged with the following misdemeanor offenses: second offense petit larceny, eight counts of obtaining money by false pretense, ID theft, eight counts of receiving goods by credit card fraud, and eight counts of used goods credit card fraud. - - -

- - - An alleged domestic incident in Lexington resulted in the arrest of James R. Crocker, 28, on Monday, Jan. 6.

Crocker was charged by Lexington police with assault and battery of a family member, malicious wounding and assault and battery of a law enforcement officer.

- - - Timothy D. Cooper, 31, of Newport News, was charged by the Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office with felony perjury in connection to a reckless driving traffic stop on Jan. 7. Cooper was also charged with reckless driving, resisting arrest, drive revoked, and obstruction. - - -

Elbin Alexamber Melendez, 41, of Lexington, aggravated sexual battery, Jan. 6.

Travis S. Clark, 40, of Lexington, assault on a family member, third offense, Jan. 6.

Simon O. Austin, 35, of Fairfield, felony strangulation, domestic assault and battery, Jan. 9.

Nigel Stockton, 20, of Brownsburg, nonviolent felon in possession of a firearm, Jan. 9.

Desiree Alexander Straub, 26, of Buena Vista, possession of a schedule I or II controlled substance, Jan. 9.

Brittany Kay Harris, 30, of Raphine, petit larceny third offense, two counts of petit larceny third or subsequent offense, two counts of conspiracy to commit petit larceny third or subsequent offense, and possession of a schedule I or II controlled substance, Jan. 10.

Robert Franklin Hostetter, 29, unlawful wounding, Jan. 10.

Robert Junior Haynes, 34, of Lynchburg, assault and battery on a family member, petit larceny, damage phone line to prevent summoning law enforcement, Jan. 13.
