Constituents Deserve Explanation From Cline

Jan. 11, 2021

Editor, The News-Gazette:

Ben Cline needs to be held accountable. I was ashamed and appalled that our/my representative to Congress chose to vote against a valid, constitutionally certified count that had been thoroughly vetted.

When I first learned that he and three other Virginia representatives were going to support the sham objection to the count, I passed it off as an empty, political gesture. However, it took on a sinister meaning when he chose to stick with his buddies after the attack on the Capitol. What was he thinking? It was incomprehensible!

When people talk about their First Amendment Rights they should consider some words recently penned by a Virginia businesswoman whom I admire:

“Freedom doesn’t mean that you can do whatever you want. Freedom means that you carefully balance your space to make it possible for everyone else to have space as well. It is relative, not absolute. Freedom comes with more responsibilities than rights.”

We deserve a public explanation from Ben Cline about the vote he took during the extended session on Wednesday.
