Consider Donating To RAHC Campaign

Nov. 13, 2019 Editor, The News-Gazette:

A reflection: The beginnings of the Rockbridge Area Health Center (RAHC) and, now, its new facility.

In 1992, I was a founding board member of the Rockbridge Area Free Clinic now doing business as the Rockbridge Area Health Center. I remember the clinic’s infancy when Dr. David Ellington saw the first patient using an office in the Rockbridge Department of Health.

This year, 27 years later, RAHC will see over 6,000 individual patients and will serve over 20,000 patient visits. In the beginning, six voluntary providers and staff met the needs of the clinic. For health care services today, 73 paid providers and support staff work at RAHC. In the beginning, the RAFC provided medical care and pharmacy services, and today RAHC provides over 13 health care services, including medical, dental and behavioral health care and medication assistance services. This reflection points to the need for the expanded RAHC facility and to the fact that, without this additional space, RAHC would have to turn away new patients and reduce services.

RAHC is entering the public phase of its capital campaign to finance a portion of the total cost ($6.6 million) of the expanded facility. The campaign goal is $1.2 million and an additional $400,000 is needed to reach that goal.

The mission of RAHC is to promote and provide access to comprehensive, high quality, and affordable health care to improve the health and well-being of our community. The new RAHC building is so important to the ongoing mission of the health center. Please consider taking the opportunity to support this vital capital campaign.
