Community Choral Singalong Returns Next Month

The second annual Community Choral Singalong at Grace Episcopal Church will take place on Saturday, Feb. 8, from 2:15 to 6 p.m.

Pieces to be sung this year will be Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria #589 by and John Rutter’s “The Lord is my Shepherd,” and “God be in my Head.”

Martha Burford, minister of music at Grace, began this annual event last year with Fauré’s Requiem. “There are so many wonderful singalongs for Handel’s Messiah,” she said. “I have loved participating in those, but found myself thinking about the wealth of other wonderful choral works we love to sing. These singalongs allow a low time commitment chance to come together from different communities, meet new friends, and reacquaint ourselves with beloved music.”

Music scores will be provided. Participants will enjoy the collaboration of conductors Dr. Shane Lynch, Lacey Lynch, Dr. Kyle Nielsen, and Burford. William McCorkle of Lexington and Sumner Jenkins, organist-choirmaster of St. Paul’s, Lynchburg, will be the accompanists, joined by a string quartet from Lynchburg, and oboist Bill Parrish.

Rehearsal begins at 2:15, and the public is invited to come to the formal Sing-Through (“performance”) at 5 p.m. Singers must register ahead of time. Registration is open to all who are interested via googleforms: https:// IpQLSc4JiyusNh2unuaHAjb4Jz u5i8KNEWGKZy6iISwRxC5q a11Hw/viewform?usp=sf_link, Grace’s Facebook page,, or by emailing Grace’s minister of music at martha@

This event is offered by Grace in collaboration with the Buena Vista Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and the support of many others.
