The Effinger Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank the patrons of its July 25 barbecue chicken sale. The chicken sold out. Special thanks to the Western Augusta Steam and Gas Club who brought their tractors to the fire department after a ride through the area. Those at the firehouse enjoyed seeing the approximately 30 tractors that participated in the event.

The next Effinger firehouse barbecue chicken sale will be held Saturday, Sept. 5. The department’s annual drawing will be held that day as well. Tickets may be purchased from any department member or by calling Janet Irvine (463-1933), Mary Clemmer (463- 7898), or Lynne Black (463-4198). Tickets prices are $10 for a book of 12 tickets, $5 for six tickets, or $1 per single ticket. The first prize in this year’s drawing is $5,000.

The drive-in worship service at the Collierstown Presbyterian Church on Sunday, July 26, was led by Greg Jewitt, coordinator of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for the Rockbridge County area. Peter Del Veccio provided special music for the service. A drive-in worship service is provided each week at the Collierstown Presbyterian Church beginning at 9:30 a.m.

The Collierstown Presbyterian Church’s annual “school bag” campaign will begin on Aug. 2. Canvas tote bags have been made and will be distributed that day with a list of supplies that need to be purchased and placed in each bag. Filled bags should be returned to the church by Sept. 13 for distribution by Church World Service in the United States and abroad. The church community is invited to participate in this effort and can obtain bags and information by calling the church office (463-5918). Despite COVID-19, CPC is committed to providing needed school supplies to students whether studying at home or in the school building.

The Collierstown United Methodist Church is worshipping virtually on Sunday mornings at 9:30 using the Zoom platform. A midweek Bible study is also offered on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. with Zoom. The Rev. Bill Bearden and his wife Wendy will be continuing their ministry to the Collierstown United Methodist Charge for another year after being reappointed by the bishop of the Virginia United Methodist Church.

The Collierstown Baptist Church is offering a weekly worship service on Sundays at 11 a.m. in its open air pavilion located behind the church.

Preparation of the 2021 Effinger Community Birthday Calendar sold by the Effinger Ruritan Club is underway. The cost of the calendar is $3. Birthday, anniversary, and memorial listings are 30 cents each. Calendars and listings may be purchased by contacting a Ruritan Club member.
