Parham Scores 36

Junior guard Greg Parham scored a career-high 36 points to lead VMI to a 75-64 win over Southern Conference rival The Citadel Saturday afternoon in Charleston, S.C.

Parham converted 13-of-14 attempts from the floor, including all six 3-point tries, to shatter his previous career scoring high of 23 points. VMI shot 13-of-30 (43.3 percent) from three-point range in the game. Parham also dished out a team-high five assists as the Keydets swept the regular season series with the Bulldogs. When the teams met on Jan. 18 in Lexington, VMI won 88-79.

In Saturday’s game, VMI (7-18 overall, 2-10 SoCon) outscored The Citadel 46-10 in bench points, thanks in part to the Parham scoring outburst.

Keydet guard Garrett Gilkeoson scored 11 points, all in the second half, and grabbed six rebounds. Jake Stephens pulled down eight boards as the Keydets built a 36-29 advantage in rebounding.

Tyson Batiste and Derek Webster Jr. led The Citadel (6-17, 0-11) with 14 points each.

VMI will continue SoCon action at Chattanooga tonight at 7 before playing host to East Tennessee State University at Cameron Hall on Saturday at 1 p.m. For updates on the Keydets, visit

Crawford Sets School Mark

Wingate University freshman Danielle Crawford, a 2019 Rockbridge County High School graduate, set a school record in the women’s shot put on Saturday at the Camel City Invitational at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Crawford placed eighth with a throw of 12.86 meters, or 42 feet, 2.3 inches. The previous record of 12.76 meters (41 feet, 10.4 inches) was set by Athanette Tucker at the Camel City Invitational in 2017.

During her senior year at RC, Crawford won the Class 3 state indoor shot put championship and placed second in both the shot put and discus at the state outdoor meet. She holds RC’s school record in both events.
