Coach’s Contract Extended

The contract of VMI head basketball coach Dan Earl has been extended through the 2022-23 season.

Last month, Earl completed his fifth year as head coach of the Keydets. Entering the 2019-20 season with a roster that had to replenish scoring production from three starters who averaged double figures in previous seasons, Earl molded a young squad that included six true freshmen into a competitive unit that turned into one of the most prolific three-point shooting teams in the country. VMI ranked second in the nation in threepointers made per game (10.9) and also led the Southern Conference in assists per game (16.0) and assist/turnover ratio (+1.3).

The Keydets established a new SoCon tournament record when they knocked in 18 threepointers in the 96-78 win over Samford on March 6 in first round action. VMI ended its season with a 97-75 loss to East Tennessee University in the SoCon quarterfinals. ETSU would go on to win the SoCon title, while VMI finished with a record of 9-24.
