Clemmer Named AVCA All-Region

Rockbridge County High School senior volleyball player Jaydyn Clemmer was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association all-region team last week.

Over the summer, Clemmer was named to the Under Armour All-American watch list, and from that she was selected to the AVCA all-region team. “It’s definitely an honor to be selected as one of the top players in the nation,” said Clemmer.

During her sophomore year, Clemmer went to the AVCA Phenom College Prep Program in Minneapolis, Minn.

Clemmer, a 5-foot-8-inch outside hitter, has been a leader for the Wildcats throughout her career, helping them win three consecutive Valley District championships, along with Region 3C titles both her freshman and sophomore years. The Wildcats had never won championships at either level before Clemmer arrived, and they also made the Class 3 state quarterfinals during her freshman and sophomore years, which they hadn’t done before.

Clemmer recorded her 1,000th dig last year, and was named the Valley District player of the year and selected to the allregion first team and to the all-state second team. In addition to her defensive prowess in collecting digs, Clemmer is also skilled at the net, racking up a lot of kills over the years. She has played for fifth-year RC head volleyball coach Amanda McCoy since the start of her high school career.

Last year, Clemmer committed to playing Division I volleyball at Virginia Tech after she graduates from RC next spring.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the 2020 fall sports season was postponed until 2021, with the first match scheduled for March 2. Under the Condensed Interscholastic Plan, in which teams play about 60 percent of their normal regular seasons, the volleyball season will be condensed to 12 regular-season matches, rather than 20 matches.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back on the court at RCHS for my senior year of volleyball,” said Clemmer.
