Clark Gets Softball Honor



Joey Clark of Buena Vista was inducted into the Virginia USA/Amateur Softball Association Hall of Fame on Nov. 16 in Bedford.

Also inducted was Clark’s teammate, the late Darrin Nicely of Longdale Furnace. Clark played for Rockbridge Video under coaches Charley Clark and Thurman Coffey and for the Buena Vista Independents under coaches Steve Buchanan and Gary Truslow. He then played eight years with Select Specialty out of Charlottesville.

During his softball career in Class A and Class B, Clark won 13 state championships, six regional world championships and one World Series championship, for which he was named most valuable player. Clark had four top 10 World Series finishes, placing second twice and third twice.

He is the son of the late Brenda Manuel and Roger Clark, and his brother is Parry McCluer High School softball head coach Troy Clark.
