Chessie Races Go Virtual

Friends Of The Chessie Trail has announced that their 2020 fall races will be run in a virtual format. Runners and walkers can still sign up to run the marathon, half marathon, and 5K races, but will run their race at a time and place of their own choosing, any time between Oct. 17 and Nov. 1. If permitted, FOCT will set up course markers on the Chessie Trail for the duration of the races.

“I hope that local runners and walkers won’t let the coronavirus keep them from safely training for and running a race this fall,” said race director Eric Sheffield. “These virtual races are an opportunity to do just that and to continue to support improvements to the Chessie Nature Trail.”

Runners will receive custom printable bibs and finisher certificates, and self-reported times will be posted on the runthechessie.org website. Runners who report their times will be eligible for randomly drawn prizes and those who run the race in their Halloween costume and post a picture will be eligible for special prizes.

As always, 100 percent of proceeds from the races will go to the Friends Of The Chessie Trail for trail improvements.

Runners and walkers can find more information and register at www.runthechessie.org, or contact race director Eric Sheffield at runthechessie@gmail. com.
