Candidates Need To Take Climate Change Seriously

Sept. 6, 2019 Editor, The News-Gazette:

I am a retired U.S. Navy geophysicist. My graduate studies in the 1970s were in both oceanography and meteorology.

At that time I was made aware of the situation with global warming and the proven effect of greenhouse gases. The models and predictions that were generally accepted 45 years ago appear today to have surprising accuracy although newer models are more refined and more alarming.

Climate change is real and there is no longer any room for skepticism. The most direct proof of this warming is the sea level rise which is having increasingly severe impacts on the coastal areas of the world.

I would like to see the three candidates running for the District 24 Virginia House of Delegates seat address this existential concern. So far, the only person that I see taking this threat seriously is Eli Fishpaw.
