ARNOLDS VALLEY

Services at St. John’s Episcopal Church are on hold at this time in the interest of the health and safety of its parishioners. The church vestry is monitoring local COVID-19 cases on the VDH website and our senior warden will be updating our parishioners via email. For more information, our senior warden, Dave VanOsten, can be reached by emailing vanostens@gmail.com.

My husband and I continue to do “Evening Prayer: Rite Two” readings from the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer and accompanying Bible lessons on Sunday evenings at 7, live-streamed at facebook.com/gardner.kb.

Deer continue to cross Arnolds Valley Road and Elk Creek near T-Pee’s. Please continue to be mindful when driving in that area.

Passing along a gardening tip to fellow Valley residents: I recently learned that garlic salt/powder and cayenne pepper will help deter groundhogs (or as some residents refer to them as “whistle pigs”) when sprinkled around the garden’s perimeter. Also, mixing either with water and spraying down plants will likewise deter the critters. My husband and I recently lost squash, tomatoes and watermelon to the furry foragers.
