Karyn Gardner, (540) 228-2176, (540) 655-3646

Our deepest condolences are extended to the family of Katie Mason. Our thoughts and prayers are with you!

Sending belated birthday wishes to Mary Catherine Talbot and Lynn Williams. Also sending upcoming birthday wishes to Nancy Stikes, Sue Wood, Michael Blair, Josh Gardner and Andrew Wilson.

Sending well wishes to Ron Williams, who recently had quadruple bypass surgery in North Carolina. Wishing him a speedy recovery!

Special thanks are extended to Lynn Williams for leading worship at St. John’s Episcopal Church this past Sunday and to Dave VanOsten for leading worship on our first Sunday back on June 14. Josh Gardner will be leading worship at St. John’s this coming Sunday.

St. John’s will continue to have morning prayer on Sundays at 11 a.m. until at least the first Sunday of August. Bishop Mark Bourlakas has stated that supply clergy will not be dispatched to parishes that need them within the Southwestern Virginia Diocese until August. Despite there being no singing at this time, we will still have music, which was provided this past Sunday by Bert Buford on organ and Josh Gardner on euphonium. I will be providing organ music this coming Sunday. For the time being, there will not be any gatherings for coffee hour after services.

Our area saw a lot of rain recently causing some minor flooding in low lying areas as well as some roads to be inundated by overflowing side ditches and excess runoff. The Lloyd Tolley Road tunnel flooded again, as it often does. There was some minor debris in the area: rocks, dirt, mud, etc. Buck Hill Road also flooded this time. The side ditches overflowed and flooded the southern half of the road, leaving rocks and mud on the pavement and washing out one driveway, drainpipe included. The James River crested just shy of 20 feet, which caused Elk Creek to back up and flood the lower field across the road from Elk Creek Lane.

Extending my humble thanks to everyone that has reached out to me since seeing my book article in last week’s paper! Your well wishes and book purchases are greatly appreciated!

If you have any news, birthdays, church updates or events happening and would like it listed, please don’t hesitate to let me know!
