Anthology Launch Event At W&L

Washington and Lee University will host a public book launch on Dec. 4 at 4:30 p.m. in the Hillel Multipurpose Room for a new anthology from the University of Georgia Press, “A Literary Field Guide to Southern Appalachia.”

During the event, Laura-Gray Street, one of the editors for the anthology, will talk about the book. Multiple area poets will read their poems from the collection, including W&L’s Deborah Miranda, Thomas H. Broadus Jr. Professor of English; R.T. Smith, the retired editor of W&L’s Shenandoah; and Lesley Wheeler, the Henry S. Fox Professor of English.

Books will be for sale, and a signing will follow the reading.

The editors, Rose McLarney and Laura-Gray Street, and naturalist L.L. Gaddy, commissioned poems on plant and animal species native to this region. The poems are prefaced by information about each species and illustrated by seven Southern Appalachian artists.

The event is sponsored by the Glasgow Endowment.
