13-Match Streak Ends For RC

The Rockbridge County High School volleyball team won a pair of Valley District road matches last week before going 2-2 in the Tournament of Champions on Saturday at Patrick Henry High School in Roanoke.

On Tuesday of last week, the Wildcats (17-3 overall, 7-0 district) earned a 3-0 win at Waynesboro. Graceon Armstrong led RC with 19 kills. With the 25-18, 25-21, 25-22 win, RC completed a sweep of the regular-season series.

Leading Waynesboro was Jada Keene with eight kills. The Little Giants ended the week at 6-11 overall and 4-3 in the district.

RC followed that effort with a 3-0 win at Spotswood on Thursday to complete a sweep of the regular-season series.

Jaydyn Clemmer led the Wildcats in their 25-20, 25-23, 25-12 victory with 14 kills and 21 digs. Armstrong added 12 kills, Krissy Whitesell dished out 38 assists, and Emma Lawson collected 16 kills.

The Blazers fell to 7-8 overall and 4-3 in the district.

Wildcats Go 2-2 In Tourney

Facing tougher competition, the Wildcats went 2-2 in the Tournament of Champions on Saturday in Roanoke, seeing their 13-match winning streak snapped.

The Wildcats won their first match, defeating Cave Spring 25-9, 25-23. RC then overcame Liberty Christian Academy 25-16, 25-16.

In their third match, the Wildcats lost to Blacksburg 25-17, 25-16. RC ended the day with a 25-15, 25-13 loss to Giles.

The Wildcats were scheduled to play host to Turner Ashby yesterday. Their final two matches of the regular season will be district road matches on Thursday at Broadway and on Tuesday at Harrisonburg, starting with junior varsity action at 6 p.m. both nights.
