Parry McCluer High School senior Spencer Hamilton, this year’s Virginia High School League Class 1 boys’ state player of the year, had his jersey number retired in a ceremony on Sunday night at First Brethren Church in Buena Vista. Hamilton, a 6-foot-11-inch center, led the Blues to their first state title in program history last year. Over three years of playing for the Blues, Hamilton finished his high school career with 1,309 points in 64 games for an average of 20.5 points per game. During his senior season, while leading the Blues to a 19-5 record and the Pioneer District regular season and tournament titles, Hamilton averaged 26.3 points, 10.3 rebounds and 4.4 blocks per game while scoring a school-record 631 points He has been recruited by several Division I schools to play college basketball, and he plans to make a decision this spring.
