The Goshen Volunteer Fire Department “A-Team” won the first annual Fire Fighters Challenge tug-of-war at the Rockbridge Breakfast Club’s Celebrate Rockbridge event this past Saturday at Brewbaker Field. The team was presented with the Devin Riley Memorial Fire Fighters Challenge trophy by Congressman Ben Cline and Rockbridge Fire-Rescue Chief Nathan Ramsey. Glen Mon, chairman of the Rockbridge Breakfast Club, served as master of ceremonies for the fire fighters challenge activity.
Virginia Military Institute baseball players Cole Garrett, Ty Swaim, Cole Jenkins and Trey Morgan were named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors University Division All-State Baseball Second-Team on Tuesday of last week.
Three new head coaches have joined the staff at Mountain Gateway Community College to lead three different Roadrunner sports teams when the fall semester begins, according to MGCC athletic director Vince Wyatt.
Rockbridge County High School was one of 116 schools recognized last week by the Virginia High School League for outstanding sportsmanship during the 2022-23 spring season. As announced by the VHSL in a press release on Monday of last week, these schools had no player or coach ejections, nor were their programs placed on warning status.
Lexington native Austin Doyle, a 2020 Rockbridge County High School graduate, was one of seven Virginia Military Institute cadet-athletes posting perfect 4.0 GPAs. Doyle is a redshirt junior for the VMI football team.
