As our local high school fall sports teams prepare for the upcoming season, competing over the next month and a half, there will be some changes in place to safeguard against COVID-19.
After months of uncertainty due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Parry McCluer High School football team is getting ready to play in March and April for the first time.
Even without the large crowds of fans and the change in schedule due to the coronavirus pandemic, Rockbridge County High School head football coach Mark Poston said he and his team are treating this season like any other.
The Parry McCluer High School wrestling team placed 10th at the Class 1 state tournament for the second year in a row on Saturday at the Salem Civic Center, led by senior Forrest Vassar’s second-place finish.
All four Rockbridge County High School wrestlers competing at the Class 3 state tournament placed in the top four on Sunday at the Salem Civic Center, giving the Wildcats their most state medals in program history. As a team, the Wildcats placed seventh for the second year in a row, with 30 teams competing.

Saturday was a historic day at Parry McCluer High School, as the Fighting Blues’ boys basketball team won their first state championship in program history, defeating Altavista 56-39 in the Class state finals in Buena Vista.
