Friday, Jan. 20 -- The Parry McCluer High School girls basketball team clamped down on defense in the second half to claim a 41-28 Pioneer District victory over Narrows in Buena Vista.
The Parry McCluer High School boys basketball team earned a pair of road wins last week, defeating Nelson County 55-33 last Tuesday before cruising to a 63-24 over Pioneer District rival Bath County, on Friday night.
Parry McCluer High School junior Kovyk Chandler broke the school record in the boys’ 1600-meter run on Friday night, finishing in a time of 4:29.55 at the Walter Bass High School Invitational at Liberty University.
The Rockbridge County High School wrestling team went 1-2 in a Valley District quad meet last Wednesday at Turner Ashby, losing its first two duals so far this season.
Parry McCluer High School sophomore Olive King qualified by time for the Class 1 and 2 state swim meet last week while the Rockbridge County High School boys and girls swimming teams performed well in their two meets.
In a busy week of competition, the Parry McCluer High School wrestling team placed second of 20 teams at the Matt Bryant Memorial Duals on Saturday at Franklin High School. The Fighting Blues also hosted a home tri-meet last Monday, in which they routed Giles and tied Alleghany.
The Rockbridge County High School girls basketball game snapped its 10-game losing streak last Wednesday, earning a 54-46 home win over Riverheads in Lexington. On Friday, the Wildcats suffered a 60-23 road loss to defending Valley District champion Spotswood.
