The Parry McCluer High School girls cross country team earned its fifth consecutive Pioneer District title, and PM siblings Koya and Kovyk Chandler each won individual titles last Wednesday at Glen Maury Park in Buena Vista.
The Rockbridge County High School girls cross country team placed third at the Valley District meet and will advance to the Region 3C meet. RC boys Evan Roney and Malcolm Kosmas also advanced as individuals last Wednesday afternoon at Rockingham County Fairgrounds in Harrisonburg. The RC boys finished fourth.
Virginia Military Institute senior wide receiver Michael Jackson runs with the ball during the Keydets’ 46-45 comeback win over Southern Conference rival Samford (3-5 overall, 2-4 SoCon) on Saturday afternoon at Foster Stadium in Lexington. Jackson caught the gamewinning 7-yard touchdown and Jackson finished with 10 catches for 211 yards, which is the fifth most for a single game in program history. The 18th-ranked Keydets (6-2, 4-1) overcame an 18-point third-quarter deficit to earn the win. In the Pioneer District volleyball tournament last week, Parry McCluer High School overcame Bath County 3-2 in the quarterfinals before suffering 3-0 road losses at Narrows in the semifinals and at Eastern Montgomery in the thirdplace match.
Recovering from its worst loss of the season, the Rockbridge County High School football team put up a fierce fight but ultimately suffered a 32-31 road loss to Valley District rival Harrisonburg on Friday night.
