One message that we have discerned from last week’s local election results is that a clear majority of voters is apparently satisfied with the direction Rockbridge area government officials are taking us. Vocal critics who have found much fault in Rockbridge County’s school system and the decision-making of the Board of Supervisors were unsuccessful in their bids to unseat incumbents.
Last week’s election wasn’t a “to-beexpected” referendum on the sitting president. It’s just getting back to the way politics in The Old Dominion are changing as our ever-new populace moves away from the “Old South” mindset.
As voters elect a new governor this week in what has been a very tight race, we pay tribute to a previous governor who is credited with giving Virginia a viable two-party system more than half-a-century ago.
