Sept. 26, 2022 Editor, The News-Gazette: I spent 15 years attending the bi-monthly meetings of Lexington City Council, first as a city employee and then as a reporter for The News-Gazette. Knowing what I learned about local government and knowing Collette Barry-Rec, I believe Collette is the best person to elect to Lexington City Council in November.
Sept. 26, 2022 Editor, The News-Gazette: In 1832, James Madison, when South Carolina used a states’ rights argument for “nullification” of a federal tariff, said that meant a different constitution in every state.
Sept. 23, 2022 Editor, The News-Gazette: I believe that we should all have the opportunity to vote for the school board just like we vote for the president, Congress, representatives, and the city council.
Sept. 23, 2022 Editor, The News-Gazette: The News-Gazette article of Sept. 21 on the proposed doughnut shop contains the following quote by Robert Hopkins: “I talked to the owner of Pure Eats and asked how many doughnuts he sold,” he said. “I was told they sell about 100 a day, and 300 on a good weekend. That’s 1,100 doughnuts a week and [Mr. Moody] plans to sell 1,800 a day? I think we’ve got a flawed business plan here that needs to be looked at a little closer.”
Sept. 26, 2022 Editor, The News-Gazette: A “Shout Out” to City Council candidate Nicholas Betts and the Lexington/ Rockbridge Democrats for successfully cleaning up their “adopted” stretch of highway for the Adopt-A-Highway program two weeks ago.
The Rockbridge Hunt invites horseback riders and spectators to its showcase event, the Rockbridge Fall Hunter Pace and trail ride at Goose Creek Highlands on Sunday, Oct. 2, in Raphine. In case of inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled to Oct. 9.
Sept. 26, 2022 Editor, The News-Gazette: Democrat Party office holders and current candidates for public office have one character flaw in common: dishonesty. For example, President Biden told Americans in July inflation was “zero percent.” Speaker Pelosi and her Democrat Party colleagues have claimed their recent legislation to raise taxes and unleash an army of 87,000 IRS auditors on the middle class is the “Inflation Reduction Act.” Locally, it is not surprise that President Biden and Speaker Pelosi’s careful understudy in the Sixth District walks the same path.
Sept. 26, 2022 Editor, The News-Gazette: I would like to encourage all of Ben Cline’s supporters to vote. We cannot assume that Ben will win without our vote.
Sept. 22, 2022 Editor, The News-Gazette: Fall is a great time of year to plant trees and shrubs and restore riparian buffers that can help protect our creeks from erosion. Even better at “terra-forming” are our very own “Natures Builders,” the American Beaver.
Sept. 26, 2022 Editor, The News-Gazette: U.S. Representative Ben Cline is fighting inflation via these six steps: 1. End emergency COVID spending, 2. Taking tax increases off the Washington agenda, 3. Renewing longstanding trade programs that reduce the cost of imported products and benefit American jobs, 4. Unleash American energy production, 5. Cut the unnecessary red tape and review regulations for the impact they have on prices, and 6. Get Americans working again. Congressman Cline knows we need a return to fiscal sanity to rescue this economy from the edge of a recession.
