Dec. 26, 2022 Editor, The News-Gazette: It’s increasingly foolish and dangerous to take things for granted - our country, our freedoms, our safety, our health, our right to openly worship and celebrate this very special time of year.
When Lexington City Council this past April selected Echelon Resources to design and develop apartments for a city-owned tract of land along Spotswood Drive, individual Council members emphasized that they were choosing a developer and not a specific development proposal. Council chose Echelon, it was said, because of the firm’s experience in developing similar projects – not because Council was enamored with specific designs the firm had preliminarily sketched out for the Spotswood site.
It all goes by so fast, doesn’t it? Every year I convince myself that this Christmas won’t be gone in a flash and every year I find myself wanting to know where all the time went.
The Census of Agriculture for 2022 is taking place now and everyone with agricultural interests needs to participate. The Census of Agriculture looks at land use and ownership, producer characteristics, production practices, income, and expenditures. Census responses are due by Feb. 6.
Dec. 19, 2022 Editor, The News-Gazette: A week ago, I gassed up my car at a Fredericksburg Sheets for $2.80 a gallon. Upon my return to Lexington three hours later, I went by the Sheetz here and found gas priced at $3.30 a gallon.
Dec. 19, 2022 Editor, The News-Gazette: Lexington City Council follows the City Codes and also uses its subjective judgments on the appropriateness of projects. I have three items I would like the City Council members to weigh before they vote on the Echelon Spotswood proposal.
Dec. 16, 2022 Editor, The News-Gazette: I arrived home Wednesday from working in Northern Virginia all day to find The News- Gazette in the mail box. I was very disheartened to see the announcement that Ronnie Campbell had passed away.
