Rain and fog that cast gloom on Saturday, New Year’s Eve, receded overnight, making way for clear skies and unseasonably mild temperatures on Sunday, the first day of 2023, perhaps portending a sunnier outlook for the year ahead. We would certainly like to think that we are heading toward better days in the new year.

When Lexington City Council this past April selected Echelon Resources to design and develop apartments for a city-owned tract of land along Spotswood Drive, individual Council members emphasized that they were choosing a developer and not a specific development proposal. Council chose Echelon, it was said, because of the firm’s experience in developing similar projects – not because Council was enamored with specific designs the firm had preliminarily sketched out for the Spotswood site.
It all goes by so fast, doesn’t it? Every year I convince myself that this Christmas won’t be gone in a flash and every year I find myself wanting to know where all the time went.
The Census of Agriculture for 2022 is taking place now and everyone with agricultural interests needs to participate. The Census of Agriculture looks at land use and ownership, producer characteristics, production practices, income, and expenditures. Census responses are due by Feb. 6.
Dec. 19, 2022 Editor, The News-Gazette: A week ago, I gassed up my car at a Fredericksburg Sheets for $2.80 a gallon. Upon my return to Lexington three hours later, I went by the Sheetz here and found gas priced at $3.30 a gallon.
