In this age of political polarization, it’s difficult to imagine a time when Republicans and Democrats would get along with each other and work for the common good. A person who remembers such a time is Nanalou Sauder, retired high school government teacher and the first woman to be elected to the Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors. It was back in the early 1980s, when she and her fellow supervisors were able to put their partisan differences aside for the benefit of the county.
Yes, that’s a new word for me also. But, get used to seeing it over the next five years. That is the term for a 250th anniversary, and our nation will be observing its semiquincentennial in five years – July 4, 2026.
