Area residents are invited to join the city of Lexington in celebrating Arbor Day Friday, Oct. 15, with a brief talk on planting trees and then an actual planting of trees.
Of all the capital projects that are being planned by Rockbridge area governments in the years ahead, perhaps none is more important than a long-overdue upgrade of the Floyd S. Kay Career and Technical Education Center. A report on a feasibility study of proposed renovations was presented at a joint meeting earlier this month of the Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors and School Board, and on Monday the Board of Supervisors gave the green light to the School Board to proceed with getting more detailed engineering and architectural plans for the project.
If you have mature trees in your yard or on your property, they can add a great deal to your enjoyment. And, they add a great deal to the attractiveness of city streets and country lanes. The shade they afford in summer can lower your electric bill for air conditioning, or help cool your house if you don’t. They can provide screening for privacy and, if the flowering kind, explode with color in the spring. In the fall, the changing colors of the leaves bring thousands of ‘leaf peepers’ to the Blue Ridge area.
