Teams from five states competed in the annual horse pull sponsored by the Effinger Volunteer Fire Department Saturday. The horse pull was part of a day full of Labor Day weekend festivities that included a barbecue chicken dinner and the sale of other food items, and a raffle drawing. Teaming up with Modine Manufacturing Company, the Rockbridge Area Recreation Organization purchased a new scoreboard for the football field at Camden Field in Buena Vista last week. The scoreboard was dedicated on Thursday morning, with RAROusing the memorial fund established in 1996 in honor of John Pickral, along with Modine’s donation of $100.
