A number of area schools celebrated Read Across America last week with special activities. Among those activities were building “trufala trees” with Unifix cubes by first-graders in Patricia Jennings’ class at Fairfield Elementary (above) and a second-graders playing a card game during “hat day” at Waddell Elementary (at right), where green eggs and ham were also on the school’s menu. Read Across America honors children’s author Theodor “Dr. Seuss” Geisel, whose birthday was March 2.

Special Events At Maury River Senior Center

The Maury River Senior Center will celebrate its 15th anniversary on March 10, 2020. A celebration will be held on March 27 at 1:15 pm after the monthly concert. The concert theme this month is “Songs of the Irish and America” and is at noon. The public is invited to the anniversary celebration and the concert.

‘Crossings’ Brings W&L And Lexington Community Together

“We Are America: Honoring the Lives and Experiences of Immigrants” will feature a staged reading of the play “Crossings,” as well as music, food and discussion to celebrate local immigrants and raise awareness about the realities of immigration. The event will take place at Sweet Treats (18 W. Washington St), March 28 at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $15 and proceeds will go to the Immigration Legal Fund of 50 Ways Rockbridge and to Project Horizon of Lexington.
