Students at Buffalo Creek Boys School, as their monthly service project, helped a volunteer crew build walking and mountain biking trails at Glen Maury Park, prior to the caronavirus outbreak.

LWC Art Contest Winners Announced

The Lexington Woman’s Club presented ribbons to winners of its 2020 art contest at its recent meeting in Brady Chapel at Lexington Presbyterian Church.

The Effinger Ruritan Club invites members of the community to join the club’s members this week or on Saturday, March 28, in a roadside cleanup. Orange trash collection bags will be available at the Palmer Community Center on Saturday morning. Filled bags should be tied and let off the roadway for pickup. Area residents and property owners are asked to help clean the roadways and areas around their property lines, churches, and other locations.

As part of the American Legion family, I am a member of Post 291 here in Lexington. My most sacred responsibility is to look out for each member in my post and fellow veterans. As a way to reach out to those who may need just a wellness check or help with a problem, the National Executive Committee passed Resolution 18 during Spring Meetings in May 2019. The resolution calls for “Buddy Checks” to be conducted Legion-wide on the weeks of the American Legion’s birthday, March 15, and Veterans Day.

Chess Players Place High In State Tourney

Members of the Lexington City Schools Chess Club and the Rockbridge County High School chess club spent the weekend of March 7-8 in Alexandria participating in the Virginia State Scholastic Chess Championships and performed very well again this year.

Home-Schooling For All

With all of the public school classes canceled for at least two weeks, parents have been working with their children to keep their education going while at home. When we asked on Facebook for parents to send us photos of what some of the first week at home looked like, we received lots of photos. What you see here are just a few of those. If you would like to add your child’s photo to our Facebook posting, please do. Who knows? You just might see his or her photo in the paper as well.
