Editor’s note: The current pandemic that we are living through has been compared, since its beginning, to the Great Flu Pandemic of 1918 when millions worldwide died. What happened here during those terrible days? The executive director of the Rockbridge Historical Society, Eric Wilson, joins us this week to provide just such a local retrospective. The following, he says, is drawn from a 2005 RHS presentation by microbiologist and immunologist Dr. Eileen Hinks, who teaches at VMI and Mary Baldwin University. All High Bridge Presbyterian Church services continue to be canceled until further notice. The pastor, the Rev. Jason Grimes, continues to send the weekly sermon to members and request we pass the peace to our members each Sunday. Always to two different members.

While the Rockbridge Regional Library is closed to the public, it is offering story time with Miss Wendy daily via Facebook Live featuring Wendy Redfern, with assistance from her daughter Rose. Readers can search for Rockbridge Regional Libraries on Facebook and rrlib on Instagram for details. Also there is a lot of information on its website at www. rrlib.net, including downloadable books and audio as well as online sources for children. Those sources include Tumblebooks, a virtual tour of the Museum of Natural History, NASA stem activities and story time with astronauts at NASA. Library staff continues to answer calls and emails.
