For the third consecutive year, several three-person teams, made up of staff and faculty from Dabney S. Lancaster Community College, have walked hundreds of miles in the “Miles for Meals” initiative to raise funds for a worthy cause.
There may have been no homecoming parade this year, but the seniors at Rockbridge County High School were able to participate in a senior class 2021 car parade last Wednesday afternoon. The parade started at the Tractor Supply parking lot, where they decorated their schools in school colors, and then headed down U.S. 11 to Furrs Mill Road to Greenhouse Road and then to the high school parking lot. Beautiful fall color now dots Rockbridge County. It’s a glorious sight and important for local tourism. What causes the leaves to change and why are the colors brighter in some years than others? Washington and Lee’s Staniar Gallery is presenting “American Folk,” a series of photographic portraits by West Virginia-based artist Lisa Elmaleh. The physical exhibition is open to the W&L community from Oct. 20 through Nov. 13. Elmaleh will give a virtual artist’s talk on Nov. 4 at 5:30 p.m.
Also going off to college this fall from the Rockbridge area are Megan Trussell to Dabney S. Lancaster Community College, Victoria Mason to the James Madison University adult degree program and Charlotte Abry to Georgetown University.
