Halloween Goes On (Video Included)

Despite the ongoing global pandemic that has caused the cancelation of many events this fall, trick-or-treating in downtown Lexington still took place this past Saturday. With the crowds dispersed over an entire workday, children and their families took to the streets while participating merchants either passed out candy or left candy outside their shops so that trick-or-treaters could help themselves. Outside of Sugar Maple on Main Street (see photo second from bottom at left), children received their candy by way of a colorful “vending machine.” (Joann Ware photos)

Trunk-Or-Treating In Effinger

Many area youngsters and their families turned out for the Effinger Community Trunk or Treat event Friday across from the Effinger firehouse. The event, sponsored by community churches, even featured free McDonalds Happy Meals, given out here by Jade Knick with Collierstown Presbyterian.

Halloween brought out all sorts of little characters this past weekend who enjoyed trick-or-treating at the Trunk or Treat events at the Glasgow Farmers Market and at Natural Bridge Christian Fellowship and just old-fashioned door-to-door.

Hallelujah Night Games And More

Children at the annual Hallelujah Night Saturday at the Lexington Foursquare Gospel Church and the Rockbridge Christian Academy were able to enjoy a wide variety of activities. Those included (clockwise from below) playing a basketball game (Matthew Flint showing the photographer how it’s done); listening to RCA students perform ‘Give Me A J”; guessing the number of candy pieces in a jar; and playing on a Velcro bouncy house.

COLLIERSTOWN

An Effinger Community “Trunk or Treat” event will be held on Friday, Oct. 30, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the field across from the Effinger Volunteer Fire Department beside the former Effinger School. The event is sponsored by the community’s churches. Churches participating include the Collierstown Baptist, Collierstown Presbyterian, Collierstown United Methodist, Mt. Horeb United Methodist, and the Oxford Presbyterian Church. Church members will be in decorated cars handing out candy treats to the community’s children.
