Tuesday, Sept. 11 – In its only home match of the season, the Parry McCluer High School golf team placed third of five teams on Tuesday at The Vista Links in Buena Vista.

Playing against mostly larger schools in their first match in two weeks, the Blues tallied a 206 for one of their highest scores this season in the nine-hole nondistrict match. William Fleming, with just four golfers, won with a 201, defeating runner-up Alleghany by one stroke. Completing the standings were Riverheads (218) and Buffalo Gap (222).

William Fleming’s Trey Clayton was the medalist, firing a 42 on the hilly and challenging par-36 front nine, and teammate Horton Hudson placed second of 27 individuals with a 43.

Bryant Wilhelm led the Blues, placing third with a 45. Matt Kiely shot a 52 for PM’s second score, and teammate Trevor Wright carded a 54. Jacob Hamilton and Alex Milanese each shot a 55 for the Blues.

The Blues will conclude the regular season on Wednesday with a Pioneer District match at Cliff View Golf Course in Covington at 4:30 p.m. The Blues, who are 4-0-1 in the district, clinched the regular-season district title in late August.

The Pioneer District tournament will be at Cliff View on Wednesday, Sept. 19, starting at 10 a.m.
