PM Girls Cagers Rout Eastside, Book Return Trip To State Title Game

Tuesday, March 6 -- The Parry McCluer High School girls basketball team rolled past Eastside 69-29 in the Class 1 state semifinals in Wise.

The Fighting Blues (26-2), who won last year's Group 1A title, will return to Virginia Commonwealth University's Siegel Center in Richmond for the state championship game on Friday afternoon. PM will face off against Surry County, whom the Blues defeated 51-48 in last year's state semifinals.

In Tuesday's semifinal matchup, Hailey Huffman scored a game-high 15 points to lead the Blues past the Spartans. Peyton Mohler racked up 13 points, eight rebounds and nine assists, while Madison Dunlap tallied 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Hannah Wyrick paced Eastside (25-4) with 11 points, and Anna Whited added nine markers.

The Class 1 title contest will tip off at 2 p.m. Friday. Admission is $10. PM claimed last year's state championship with a 34-29 victory over George Wythe.
