Roy Southers, 88, of Buena Vista died Dec. 22


Roy Clyde Southers, 88, of Buena Vista passed away on Friday, Dec. 22, 2017, at Kendal in Lexington.

Mr. Southers was born Jan. 4, 1929, in Burgin, Ky., and was the son of the late William James Southers and Elizabeth Priscilla Young Southers.

Mr. and Mrs. Southers owned and operated Kenney’s from 1963 to 1994.

Mr. Southers is survived by his wife of 68 years, June Elizabeth Miller Southers; two daughters, Sherri Southers Wheeler and husband Leroy, and Beth Southers Slagle and husband Steve, both of Buena Vista; grandchildren Joseph D. Wheeler and wife Jenn of St. George, Utah, Ruthie Lawhorne and husband Craig of Buena Vista, Joshua W. Wheeler and wife Alice of Snohomish, Wash., Ellen M. Wheeler of Buena Vista, Joy L. Wheeler of Glasgow, Amy Hostetter and husband Chad of New Brockton Ala., Jason Slagle and wife Shannon of Buena Vista; 14 great-grandchildren; and sister Dorothy Trainum of Waynesboro.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, at Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Chapel with Bishop Eric Hanson officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Buena Vista Rescue Squad. Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.
