John David "J.D." Hostetter, 90, died peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017, at Havenwood Assisted Living.

J.D. was born to Oakey R. Hostetter and Cora Biggs Hostetter on Dec. 11, 1926, at Slagle, W.Va.

For many years he was a carpenter and builder in Rockbridge County.  He loved the mountains and spent many weekends at his second home in Goshen with his son John, friends and family.  His sense of humor remained even when his disabilities worsened; he joked with his caregivers and never complained.

He was a member of Ebenezer A.R. Presbyterian Church and worked with other members in completing many church projects.

He was preceded in death by his only child, John David Hostetter Jr., and five brothers, Ora, Eugene, Jimmy, Roy and Don.

J.D. is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Beatrice Hartless Hostetter; daughter-in-law, Debra Morris Hostetter; grandchildren Colton Hostetter and Janice Hostetter Edwards, husband Michael; and two step-great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are sisters Agnes Reynolds, Betty Lilly and Ruth Smith.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, at Harrison Funeral Chapel with the Rev. William Harris officiating. Friends may gather with the family for one hour prior to the service.

The family is grateful for the loving care he received at Havenwood Assisted Living, as well as Golden Living Center and Rockbridge Area Hospice.

Arrangements are by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory.
