McCargo Sentenced To 17 Years In Fatal Crash

A North Carolina man was sentenced Tuesday afternoon to 17 active years in prison on three counts arising from the high-speed collision in Fairfield last December that killed local resident Ricky Stuart Deacon.

Judge Anita Filson sentenced Tyquanne Corelle McCargo, 25, of Charlotte to 36 years in prison, with 19 years suspended.

McCargo pleaded guilty in March to felony murder, felony eluding-endangerment, and reckless driving. Two additional charges – involuntary manslaughter and obstruction of justice – were dropped as part of a plea agreement.

That plea agreement did not contain any promise regarding the active or suspended sentence he would have to serve, and the total sentence could have reached as high as 46 years in prison, plus fines and possible restitution.
