Knicely Concert At Kiln

  • Written by Staff Writer

A special concert to celebrate the end of a successful concert season at the Lime Kiln Theater will be held Friday, Sept. 5. Danny Knicely, Wyatt Rice rhythm lead guitarist of The Tony Rice Unit and bassist Mark Schatz of Nickel Creek will be performing. Admission is free, which is the kiln's way of saying thank you to all who've supported the rebirth of the outdoor theater this year.

The Southern Inn will be providing a dinner, served from 6:30 to 8, for $10 a plate. Devil's Backbone beer and Rockbridge Vineyard's wine will be available at a cash bar. Light concessions will be served during the show. Donations to Lime Kiln Arts will be graciously accepted both online, www.limekilntheater.org, and at the event.

Knicely will be releasing his new CD at this event. Rice and Schatz both played on this new CD, which was recorded by Les Thompson, founding member of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.

Wonder Concert To Benefit Community Table

The local group Wonder will give a benefit concert for The Community Table at Trinity United Methodist Church in Lexington Sunday, Sept. 7, at 3 p.m. A freewill offering will be taken and The Community Table will also receive half of the proceeds from the group’s CD sales.

The special guest at the concert will be Nashville Christian singer and songwriter Bruce Allen, who, of course, is also from Rockbridge County.

The Community Table is a nonprofit organization that offers two meals a week to the residents of the Rockbridge area at the Piovano Building in Lexington. The “restaurant” does not have a cash register but donations are accepted. “Our mission is to not only feed the hungry but to also give people hope,” a spokesman said.
