VMI Community Theatre will hold open auditions for the Civil War drama “Secret Service” and other selected Civil War stories on Saturday and Sunday, May 18 and 19, from 2 to 5 p.m., and Monday, May 20, from 7 to 10 p.m. in the Gillis Theater, Marshall Hall, Center for Leadership and Ethics, at VMI.
Acting roles are open for men and women, ages 15 and up. Those auditioning will be asked to read from scripts provided. Anyone wishing to audition who cannot be available on these dates should contact Community Theatre Director Joellen Bland to arrange another time.
Flexible rehearsals will begin on May 21, with performances scheduled for June 20, 21, 22, 28, 29 and 30. Most rehearsals are in the evening, but other times can be arranged. The auditions are open to everyone in the community who would like to participate onstage or in a support position. Actors, as well as staff to help with sets, costumes, makeup, props, publicity, lighting and sound and box office, are needed.
The VMI Community Theatre is an all-voluntary, not-for-profit group, established in 2011 as a summer theater opportunity separate from the cadet-based VMI Theatre which operates during the school year.
A second production, to be selected, is scheduled for July 11, 12, 13, 19, 20 and 21. Auditions will be scheduled at a later date.
