VMI’s Storybook Hoops Season Concludes with Semifinal Loss to Yale

Wed., April 2 – The VMI basketball season ended with a 75-62 loss to Yale in the semifinals of Tournament on Tuesday at Cameron Hall.

The Keydets (22-13) scored the first six points of the game, but Yale (19-13) went on an 11-4 run and stretched the lead to double figures. VMI gradually chipped away at the Bulldogs’ lead, cutting it to six points with under five minutes left, but Yale pulled away at the end.

Rodney Glasgow led VMI with 20 points, and fellow senior D.J. Covington scored 17 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and blocked five shots. Glasgow completed his career second all-time in assists for VMI, and Covington finished as VMI’s all-time leading shot blocker.

Javier Duren paced Yale with 19 points.

The game marked the first time the Keydets have ever played in April.

Wildcats Win Baseball and Softball Showdowns Over Blues

Thurs., Mar. 27 -- In their first meetings of the season, the Rockbridge County High School softball and baseball teams both defeated Parry McCluer High School on Thursday at RCHS.

On the softball field, the Wildcats (1-1) captured a 4-2 comeback win over the Blues (1-1). In baseball, RCHS (2-0) cruised to a 16-0 victory over the Blues (0-2).

PM took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fifth when Kristina VanBrocklin doubled on a fly ball to left field, bringing home Lexy Johnson and Logan Buzzard.

The Wildcats responded by scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Macie Clemmer doubled to right field to drive in Cari Floyd, Logan Fitzgerald doubled to score Clemmer, and Hayden Fontenot singled to left field to bring in Fitzgerald. Kayleigh Addington completed the scoring with a solo home run over the center field fence.

Fontenot was the winning pitcher, striking out seven batters, while Megan Harmon struck out four for the Blues.

On the baseball field, Ryan Coale led the RCHS batters, going 2-for-3, scoring one run, and recording three RBIs. Teammate Luke Brinkley went 1-for-2, scored two runs, and had two RBIs. Winning pitcher Jake Conner struck out seven batters and allowed three hits and two walks in four innings.

Weather Changes High School Baseball and Softball Games

Thurs., Mar. 27 -- For baseball and softball fans out there, because of the snowfall Tuesday, yesterday evening's games between Rockbridge County High School and Parry McCluer High School have been rescheduled to Friday, April 25 at 5 p.m. PMHS. Because of rain in the forecast for Friday, the softball and baseball games between the cross-country rivals have been moved to 5 p.m. today at RCHS.
