Kevin Ruff, 46, of Buena Vista died Feb. 23

Brian Kevin “Pappy” Ruff, 46, of Buena Vista passed into his eternal home on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, in Charlottesville.

Kevin was born in Lexington on July 17, 1967, to Joyce Coleman Ruff and the late Lloyd Ruff. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Obie and Gladys Ruff, and his maternal grandparents, Talmadge R. and Myrtle W. “Nanny” Coleman.

Survivors in addition to his mother are his son Bryan Thomas Ruff; a sister, Kristi Ruff; a niece, LaceyRuff. Also, a special friend, Kristin Spence; his canine special buddy and best dog ever, “Rufus.”

Kevin was a very outgoing, generous, kind, and loving person to many friends whom survive him as well as many special relatives.

Kevin was a graduate of Parry McCluer High School, attended Longwood College and was a graduate of the Virginia State Police Academy, served as a Virginia state trooper in King William and Alleghany counties. He later served as a deputy with Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Department.

Kevin was a former dedicated member of the Buena Vista Rescue Squad and the Buena Vista Fire Department. He also served with the Sharon Fire Department while living there and also the King William Fire and Rescue while living there.

A funeral service will be held at Bolling, Grose, and Lotts Funeral Home on Thursday, Feb. 27, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service.

Louise Josephine Brooks, 85, of Lexington died Feb. 22

Louise Josephine Brooks, 85, of Lexington died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014.

Born March 19, 1928, in Baltimore, Md., she was a daughter of the late Henry Schorr and Mary Migel Schorr. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Dominic Dileggi; a grandson, Skyler Dileggi; and a sister, Patricia Orzech.

Louise attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Lexington.

Surviving are her husband, Charles Franklin Brooks; a son, Martin D. Dileggi, of Lexington; a daughter, Joanne Mary Dondero, of New York; brothers George Schorr and Robert Schorr, both of Baltimore, Md.; five grandchildren, David, Aaron, Jordan, Amber and Katie, and five great-grandchildren. 

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 Wednesday, Feb. 26, at Harrison Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rockbridge Area Relief Association, P.O. Box 640, Lexington, VA 24450 or Rockbridge Area Hospice, 315 Myers St., Lexington, VA 24450.

Arrangements are being handled by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory.

Laura Lee Groah, 44, of Buena Vista died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014.

She was born in Rockbridge County on Jan. 25, 1969, the daughter of Henry William Smith and Bessie Virginia Lewis Smith. Preceding her in death is a son, Christopher Lee Groah.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Dale Lee “Dee” Groah Jr.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, at Faith Baptist Church in Arnolds Valley with Rev. Terry Bostick officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday at the church. Arrangements by Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
