Robert Christopher “Bob” Trani, 63, of Lexington died Friday, July 11, 2014, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Salem.

Robert Christopher “Bob” Trani, 63, of Lexington died Friday, July 11, 2014, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Salem.

Born Sept. 10, 1950, in Bronx, N.Y., a son of the late Basilio R. Trani and Rose Agnone Trani. He had 20 years of military service with the U.S. Navy and twice commander of VFW Post 1499. He was a member of Collierstown Baptist Church.

For many years, he coordinated and hosted the Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremony in downtown Lexington. He volunteered with Theatre at Lime Kiln, the Effinger Fire Department and Fridays Alive. He loved to hunt, fish and paint and was proud to be an Italian-American Yankees fan.

He is survived by his wife, Valerie Lee Trani of Lexington; his daughters Robin Rose Bell of Franklin and Julianna Trani of Chesapeake; his brothers Christopher Trani of the Bronx and Albert Trani of Yonkers, N.Y.; and two grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, July 15, at 11 a.m. at Harrison Funeral Chapel by Pastor Jesse Krystowiak. Burial will follow with military honors Thursday, July 17, at 2 p.m. at Culpeper National Cemetery.
