Claude Obenshain Hartbarger Sr., 87, of Lexington died Saturday, June 28, 2014, at his home.

He was born Oct. 23, 1926, in Rockbridge County a son of the late John Henry Hartbarger and Clara Morris Hartbarger. Mr. Hartbarger was a member of Bible Church at Rockbridge and retired from Burlington Industries after 42 years of service. Claude served his country in the United States Navy during World War II on board the Destroyer USS O’Hara. He also loved to fish and hunt.

Surviving are his wife, Dessie H. Hartbarger of Lexington; three sons, Claude O. Hartbarger Jr. of Lexington; Gregory Hartbarger of Raphine and Dexter Hartbarger of Nokesville; two sisters, Frances Irvine of Lexington and Margaret Jean Lilly of Buena Vista; two brothers, A.R. Hartbarger of Buena Vista and Jerry Hartbarger of North Carolina; 16 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 3, at Harrison Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. George Warden. Burial will follow at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
