Yonnie Wayne Dorey Sr., 71, of Lexington died March 9

Yonnie “Nighthawk” Wayne Dorey Sr., 71, of Lexington, passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2019, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Yonnie was the son of J. Tinsley Hamilton and Blanche Dorey.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Maren K. Varner, four brothers, three sisters, and his bear dog, Finley.

Yonnie served in the Army for two years in Germany.  He was a truck driver for 30 years. Yonnie loved to bear hunt and fish. 

Surviving are his wife, Marina J. Dorey; his son, “JR” Dorey (Leslie); three grandchildren, Derek Koebernik, Dylan Varner and Rilea Dorey; brothers, Joe Dorey (Linda), Clinton Dorey (Wanda); sisters, Clemmie Jenkins (Billy) and Eva Conner; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; two special nephews, Travis Dorey who was more like a son to him and Jerry Dorey who was like a brother to him. He is also survived by long-time hunting and fishing buddies who were more like family.  He will be greatly missed by all.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, at Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Chapel with Pastor Butch Grow officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060 or the Virginia Bear Hunters Association, c/oWilliam Berry, Secretary, 9576 Deerfield Road, Millboro, VA 24460.

Arrangements are being handled by Bolling, Grose, & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
