Tickets are now on sale for the second annual Victory Chef Cook-off, scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 29, at 2 p.m. in Marshall Hall at Virginia Military Institute.

This year’s event again features three local chefs competing in the “Chopped” style cook-off using traditional Moroccan ingredients, such as couscous, figs, exotic spices and Merguez Sausage made with lamb.  Jenny Elmes, chef and owner of Full Circle Catering, Mike O’Byrne, co-executive chef of Bistro on Main, and Michael Pascarella, executive chef at Rocca’s Bar Ristorante, will cook before an audience while being live- streamed on a jumbo screen.

The cook-off pays homage to the 1942 top secret Casablanca Conference at which Roosevelt and Churchill plotted the course of World War II, including setting the Allied invasion of Europe through Normandy, France.  Chief of Staff General George C. Marshall and many other important military figures of the time were there.  All proceeds benefit the George Marshall Museum.

Judging the event are Marcia France, assistant provost and chemistry professor at Washington and Lee; Matt Paxton, editor of The News-Gazette; and Nate Fountain, owner and chef at Mano Taqueria, who also competed in the 2016 cook-off.

The judges will taste a composed entrée and two side dishes developed by chefs using only the ingredients from a mystery bin and a pantry consisting of foods found in Moroccan kitchens.  The winner will be awarded the title of “Five Star Chef.”

Additional features this year include an appetizer contest featuring five local groups: W&L Catering, Lexington Country Club, Kappa Alpha Order, Omicron Delta Kappa and the Culinary Arts students from Dabney Lancaster Community College.  Ticket holders will be able to taste the original recipes from the teams and award a winner.  Children’s activities and a selfie booth decorated as a Moroccan lounge will also be offered.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for students in advance and may be purchased at www.marshallfoundation.org or by calling Kathy Garvin at 463-7103, ext. 124.
