Thomas Martin “Marty” Anderson of Rockbridge Baths died Feb. 13, 2018.

Thomas Martin “Marty” Anderson of Rockbridge Baths claimed the promise of the Resurrection on Feb. 13, 2018, after a valiant fight against cancer.  Marty was born Jan. 6, 1959, to Thomas and Betty Talbott Anderson.

In addition to his parents, Marty is survived by his fiancée, Donna Runkle; his sister, Gail Heslep; a brother, Tate Anderson and wife Brenda; his daughter, Brandi Anderson; grandson Brantley Owens; and numerous nieces and nephews.

From an early age, Marty loved automobiles.  Building and painting model cars as a child led him to become an accomplished mechanic with a true love for restoration.  A love for NASCAR and speed led to dirt track racing, both behind the wheel and under the hoods of race cars.  He had a passion for vintage automobiles, especially his cherished '68 Camaro and favorite Chevelle.  He loved Chevrolet and would have never owned a Ford.

Marty was a licensed electrician and throughout his life, he held a variety of jobs, but he was most at home in a garage.  He thrived on bringing old cars to life, rebuilding engines, and making what was old new again.  He loved to tinker and his tools still lay by his beloved El Camino that still needed “some work”.

Marty was a quiet, gentle soul with a good sense of humor and a playful grin.  He lived simply.

The Rev. Fred Noll will conduct the graveside service at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018, at cemetery of Bethesda Presbyterian Church, where Marty was a lifelong member.

The family requests no flowers.  If inclined, please make donations to Rockbridge Area Hospice, 315 Meyers Street, Lexington, VA 24450, who cared so compassionately for him the last months of his earthly life.

Arrangements are being handled by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory.
